Springfield, Mo. – The Springfield Homicide Unit located the suspect vehicle and identified Elysha Bedell, a 19-year-old male from Springfield, and two juveniles as suspects in the Nov. 14 homicide of 26-year-old Chaviz Nguyen.
On Nov. 15, 2023, Bedell was arrested and booked into the Greene County Jail. The two juveniles were arrested and booked into the Greene County Juvenile Detention Center.
On Nov. 16, 2023, the case was presented to the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office. Bedell was charged with 1st Degree Murder, 1st Degree Assault, 2 counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and 4 counts of Armed Criminal Action with no bond.
On Nov. 16, 2023, the cases against the two juveniles were presented to the Greene County Juvenile Office for charges to be filed.
The Greene County Prosecutor’s Office cautions that the charges contained in the felony complaint are merely allegations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.

On Nov. 14, 2023, at 8:18 p.m., the Springfield Police Department responded to a report of gunshots being fired from one vehicle at another near the intersection of Grant Avenue and College Street.
When officers arrived, they located 26-year-old Chaviz Nguyen from Springfield, a female victim, and their vehicle near the intersection of Campbell Avenue and College Street. Both victims had gunshot wounds. The female was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Medical personnel performed lifesaving efforts, but Nguyen died at the scene. Nguyen’s family has been notified.
The suspect vehicle fled the scene immediately following the shooting and has not been located.

Early Sunday morning, officers received notification that a stolen vehicle had passed a FLOCK license plate reader camera in southeast Springfield.
The vehicle was located at the Kum & Go at 2150 S. Glenstone. Two subjects, Elysha Bedell, 19, and Arshaun Bradley, 19, were in the vehicle and arrested. Both were in possession of handguns and controlled substances.
Bradley and Bedell were booked to the Greene County Jail for possession of a controlled substance, unlawful use of a weapon, and tampering with a motor vehicle.
